Good news!! Facebook just introduced even more granular News Feed settings to help you control exactly what you want to see from friends, people you follow, and Pages you’ve liked. BUT, is this good news for Pages? Hm. Read on...
First, listed below are key points from Facebook’s official announcement, with notations added by me in [square brackets].
✅ What you do in News Feed helps determine what you see in News Feed. YOU decide who you want to connect to, and what Pages and public figures you want to follow. [This is such an important point to underscore. So many Facebook users have long misunderstood the amazing amount of granular control they DO actually have over their News Feed content. The improvements Facebook just added will hopefully help more users take back control and really fine-tune their News Feed content.]
✅ Quickly Unfollow and re-follow people, Pages and Groups: News Feed settings will now show a list of the top people, Pages and Groups that you’ve seen in your News Feed over the past week. You can choose to sort by people, Pages, Groups, or see an overall summary. [This sounds like a terrific improvement; I love the ability to now see at-a-glance all the top sources from which Facebook is selecting content to show in my own News Feed, and then I get to adjust. See below for how to access these settings on desktop or mobile.]
✅ When you hide a story you’ll now have the option to ask to see less from that person or Page. [“See less” likely means “see never?" Given the interactive nature of the News Feed ranking algorithm, if a user has hidden a post and asked to see less from a person or Page, what’s the chances the user would then occasionally see a post from that person/Page and engage with it?]
✅ If you choose to see less, you are then given the option to unfollow the friend, Page or Group if you don’t want to see any of their stories in your News Feed. You can also see who you’ve unfollowed in the past and can choose to re-follow them at anytime. [To me, an unfollow may as well be an unfriend or unlike - would you agree? I mean, they’re still showing up in your friend/fan count, but they’ve signaled Facebook’s algorithms to never see that content in their News Feed.]
✅ You can always visit News Feed settings to see everything you’ve unfollowed and have the option to re-follow them. [Hm, but I wonder how many Facebook users will now proactively *remember* to go back to their News Feed settings and review their follow/unfollows?!]
News Feed settings will be available starting November 7th on desktop and mobile. If you don't have them yet, they're coming very soon!

Unfollow Your Most Annoying Facebook Friends And Pages With “News Feed Settings”

Interesting excerpt: "Facebook isn’t designed to put businesses first, or even put all your friends first so you see all their posts. It’s centered around each individual. Because if Facebook prioritizes anything else, people stop visiting, and nobody gets any attention to their posts. As long as the end user is happy, at least someone will get the attention 1.35 billion people pour into News Feed."

So, there you have it. Bottom line, Pages that consistently publish quality, relevant content that resonates with their audience have nothing to fear. Your fans will continue to love and engage with you! (I recommend encouraging your fans to enable notifications for your Page, so long as you're not posting more than 2x a day, say). But, as TechCrunch points out, those Pages that share too much or are too self-promotional could get swept under the rug.
Your thoughts? Will you tweak your settings as a user? Do you think these new controls will impact the visibility of your Page posts?
Please share your response in the comments below. And do share this post with your own fans/friends. Thanks heaps!
